British Parliament Member Receives Diamond Earrings Gift

How's that for a great Christmas present? Twenty-nine year old Labor member of the British Parliament Luciana Berger has received a gift of diamond earrings from an anonymous giver. However, she said she felt so uncomfortable with the gift, she gave it up.

The Parliament member turned the earrings over to the police, also obeying a House of Commons rule on gifts.

"I am not overreacting and to be honest, I would not bother complaining if it had
been anywhere else," she says, "But clearly I am concerned enough to report it.

Someone has sent me unsolicited gifts. I feel uncomfortable about that. I do not know what his agenda is. He probably needs help."

The man who gave Berger the gift is believed to be a U.S. Citizen. He also sent Berger cards. Parliamentry sergeant at arms Jill Pay says this isn't the first time the man has sent gifts. He once sent a diamond bracelet to another woman in the House of Commons.

While the gifts are unusual, police say he has not made any threats again

st either woman and just seems to be obsessed by British politics. Or perhaps Brit

ish female politicians?

This isn't the first time there's been a stalker in the House of Commons. The Daily Mail reports that earlier this year, Tory MP Nadine Dorries reported she had a stalker. Stalker Alida O'Reilly also went after several Tory politicians including David Cameron and radio presenter Jeremy Vine before being sectioned under the Mental Health Act in October.

According to The Daily Mail, around 1.2 million women and 900,000 men are affected by stalking every year in Britain. For now, Berger is not on that list.

Luciana Berger, who became a

member of the Parliament prior to the last elections, is the Labor spokeswoman on climate change. She is also the MP for Wavertree in Liverpool and a former friend of former Prime Minister Tony Blair’s son Euan.
